So we’ve gone through the best NFL player to be born in a state, and done so also with the NBA, stay tuned for a similar blog on the MLB, but today, we’ll be doing something a little different. This blog will be a little shorter, as I want to do a blog a day all summer, so be on the lookout for two blogs tomorrow. Nevertheless, let’s get into it, starting with number 1.
1. Warren Moon- Given that number one is the number that all NFL players who get drafted in the first two rounds have on their jersey to start, it’s honestly pretty surprising that more people don’t wear it. Having said that, the best player to wear it, was Hall of Fame QB Warren Moon. A nine time Pro Bowler, Moon racked up over 70,000 passing yards in his NFL career, rightfully earning himself in the HOF.
2. Matt Ryan- Again, like number one, number two is an oddly-seldom used number, and this post could be a lot less disputed had the Falcons finished the Super Bowl in the way that they started. Ryan was the NFL MVP, and one quarter away from being a Super Bowl Champ, however, he wasn’t, yet he still wins the award for best number 2 ever.
3. Bronco Nagurski- Russell Wilson is a pretty good current number 3, but Nagurski takes the cake for the best one ever. He was a running back/fullback, and terrorized the NFL for 8 seasons, as they tried to figure out how to tackle him. He also earned his spot in the NFL Hall of Fame.
4. Brett Favre- This is an easy one. The one-time Super Bowl Champ, and Super Bowl MVP, and 11-time Pro Bowler is easily the best number 4 to ever play, wearing number 4 on all teams in his career.
5. Paul Hornung- A Packers legend like Favre, Hornung lead the Packers to four NFL Championship teams (a time before Super Bowls), and, like most of this list , has his place in Canton.
6. Kevin Butler- Butler was a kicker for the Bears in their best seasons in NFL history. Kicker for the 85 Bears, and held the record in Bears franchise history for most points all-time, until Robbie Gould broke it.
7. John Elway- You saw Elway’s name on the best players per state list, he is probably the biggest name in Broncos history, making the Pro Bowl 9 times, winning several Super Bowls, and now being their current GM. Another HOFer.
8. Steve Young- Young took over where Joe Montana left off, and won a Super Bowl, won multiple MVPs, and earned his spot in the Pro Football Hall of Fame.
9. Drew Brees- Brees, though his production in his NFL career can’t be denied, is still one of the more underrated players the game has ever seen. The one time Super Bowl MVP, as well as league MVP, has kept his steady production throughout more than a decade in his NFL career, and continues to to the date.
10. Fran Tarkenton- The last player in this list, finishing off this blog, is Fran Tarkenton. Tarkenton was the best QB in Vikings history, being one of the first dual-threat QBs, racking up over 47,000 pass yards and over 3,000 rush yards in his long career.
